A nongovernmental organization (NGO) is an entity that offers services to society and does not seek any profits. The chosen organization, which is the International Medical Corps (IMC), is among Humanitarian Health Organizations and offers emergency medical care and fortifies health centers in crisis-impacted areas. The IMC is also involved in providing development services, irrespective of race, religious beliefs, or political classes, to conflict, natural disaster, and epidemic victims (International Medical Corps, 2025). Question: How did your journey with IMC begin, and what does your current role involve?

Answer: IMC hired me as a logistics assistant 11 years ago, immediately after the Haiti earthquake. The identified context change has helped to make me a more motivated individual in my new position. The best experience I have had at the job is that through the intervention of the fast health, the lives of the people are saved, and the community is empowered with the assistance of the training and sustainable health programs.

Question: What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your role, and how do you overcome them?

Answer: Among the most challenging is to be in a remote place or even a hot spot area and have contacts. Security threats, damaged roads, and bureaucracy could slow down critical medical assistance. I also concentrate on the establishment of a close working relationship with the local partners and open communication channels at certain points.

Question: How did you get started in humanitarian work, and what do you find most rewarding about your career?

Answer: I started by volunteering in Central America, where I made medical outreach visits as a college student. My early life experiences prompted me to connect a history of working in the field of public health to humanitarian service.

Reflection

The discussion of the public health organization and interviews come in handy in giving the expected and unexpected information. The dynamism and hard work of the health service provision process is a sign of the complexity of the practice in conflict and disaster-affected areas. Nevertheless, the prospects of the governmental programs and the NGOs to cooperate on the same level were higher than anticipated, and this proves that the cooperative activities broaden the horizons and the resources of the programs.

The fact that it paid so much attention to communities and the capabilities challenges the notion that aid is pushed most of the time downwards (Schwartz et al., 2022). Such a work led me to believe in flexibility and innovation in the sphere of health at the global level, and also became more determined to help people in need and provide them with culturally-specific intervention approaches that have already proven to be effective.
