I have received the necessary amount of practicum hours of 50 in BayCare Health System – St. Joseph’s Hospital – Tampa, Florida. The practicum experience offered a guided clinical setting by emphasizing the elements of high-level nursing care and practice, patient-centered services, and collaboration across disciplines. All the hours were done in line with the course requirements and were not compensated, not related to the employment. My practicum experience involved all the steps of patient assessment, such as taking a detailed history, performing a physical examination, and analyzing diagnostic results. My close interaction with my preceptor allowed me to construct the differential diagnosis and create an evidence-based treatment plan according to the needs of an individual patient. I spent a great part of my time taking care of patients with chronic illnesses, including hypertension, diabetes, depression, and cardiovascular disease. Apart from that, I also received experience in medication reconciliation, patient education, and monitoring therapeutic outcomes to provide safe and effective care.

Besides working directly with patients, I attended interdisciplinary team meetings during which complex cases were explained to coordinate care and discharge planning. The meetings taught me more about collaborative practice and the involvement of advanced practice nurses in encouraging continuity of care. I, as well, engaged in the process of assessing up-to-date clinical guidelines and incorporating evidence-based research in the treatment decision, which reinforced my clinical reasoning and decision-making abilities. During the practicum, I worked on the areas of communication, cultural competence, and patient advocacy. I was able to educate about disease management, lifestyle change, medication adherence, and prevention of health. Reflections with my preceptor enabled me to analyze my performance and improvement areas and to set professional development objectives. This practicum experience helped me a lot in boosting my confidence, clinical competence, and preparedness to practice advanced nursing practice. Taking 50 structured and supervised hours in this U.S.-based healthcare institution, I managed to satisfy the course criteria and acquire the most critical competencies in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, collaboration, and evidence-based care.
