Assessment 1: Locating Credible Databases and Research

Locating Credible Database Resources

Credible resources include those scholarly and well-research authentic publications that are considered genuine for future researchers and professionals to gain valuable insights and use their knowledge and findings to incorporate them in their studies. There are several credible database resources that provide evidence to enhance evidence-based practices for nurses and healthcare professionals in complex settings. The purpose of these evidence-based resources and practices is to improve the level of patients’ quality outcomes and facilitate decision-making. In Prime Health Clinic, United States, depression management is a vital issue that requires nurses and psychologists to treat adverse habits in patients suffering from Schizophrenia and dementia. To ensure a good quality of care, the management has decided to locate and identify and utilize credible database reduces to promote their treatment and depression care practices. This step will enhance the confidence of nurses in Prime Health Clinic and help nurses to train and hire novice nurses to provide a better diagnosis using credible resources (Elmwood, 2018).

Communication Strategies for Nurses to Enhance Research

A baccalaureate-prepared nurse is supervising the clinical staff in Prime Health Clinic who are responsible for utilizing evidence-based practices to enhance colleagues’ work and promote research culture. Communication strategies can enhance active listening and speaking of newly-hired nurses to improve their quality of care outcomes. The first vital strategy they must follow is developing habit of active listening that involves participating in daily discussions with colleagues and stakeholders. Active listening will promote good values and respect; it will also enhance positive feedback to improve the procedures of nurses to achieve their goals (Ackley, 2019). Moreover, nurses can use video-based training and lectures that can add significant value to their roles to improve their research work. These technological devices are always beneficial for nurses and professionals to communicate smoothly and deliver vital knowledge to newly-hired nurses.

The Best Online Resources to Enhance their Research-Based Practices

Evaluation of online sources is done by most successful professionals using the CRAAP test which involves five processes or steps. The CRAAP test gives handy criteria to find the best credible online resources for nurses for improving evidence-based piracies (Yang, 2019).  The first step is a currency that deals with the time and updated status of the information. The second step is relevance which evaluates the importance of the information available; the third step is authority which helps to find the resource of the information; the fourth step is accuracy which discusses the credibility of the information; and the final step is a purpose that identifies the reason for posting that information. Moreover, nurses should also ensure they are correctly researching the hospital’s library and policy documents to find the best places for research.

Five Credible and Genuine resources Identified

The CRAAP test in the previous step provides valuable guidance criteria to determine the following five best resources for promoting evidence-based practices. According to this criteria or guideline, the sources include Pub Med (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/) which contains almost 28 million evidence-based articles; EMBASE (https://www.embase.com/); Up-to-date Database (https://www.uptodate.com/); the Journal of Pain Relief Management; the Journal of Pain, and Cochrane Library (https://www.cochranelibrary.com). These top resources are selected for several reasons and characteristics described below. The CRAAP tests help to identify these resources as the best for nurses to enhance their research skills and practices (Elmwood, 2018).

Reasons Why the Chosen Resources Offer the Best Value and Evidence

The above-mentioned five resources have been selected because they offer access to millions of credible and evidence-based journal articles and scholarly resources to help nurses read peer-reviewed materials and gain new skills (Portillo, 2021). For example, several thousand high-quality articles and reviews are accessible easily through Cochrane Library. Similarly, EMBASE also has a huge collection of more than 38 million scholarly and peer-reviewed evidence-based articles; nurses can read abstracts and view citations that can help them achieve their research-oriented goals effectively. Moreover, PubMed is another vital and credible resource for nurses that allows them to search through a huge database of almost 28 million scholarly and evidence-based articles. It also provides them with abstracts and links to full articles to gain in-depth knowledge.

Conclusion

Evidence-based practices are crucial for any healthcare setting including the Prime Health Clinic which help nurses to enhance their current skills and participate in evidence-based practices to boost their careers in the early stages. Strong communication skills can add significant value to nurses’ jobs and quality of care outcomes because using the best communication and active listening strategies can help them achieve holistic patient care and research and development goals not possible otherwise. Therefore, the CRAAP model helps them to identify the best resources to enhance their research skills.
