There are numerous applications for critical thinking in life, some of which we are unaware of. I’m going to analyze and go over a scenario involving a middle-aged woman by the name of Sally, who works in customer service for a small printer sales company. This will help me explain the critical thinking process. I will talk about the aspects of critical thinking that she frequently struggles with, like how she thinks, feels, and communicates. Last but not least, I’ll discuss her strategies for overcoming the challenges of customer service and the fallacies she encounters, and arguments she may have with coworkers and customers.

Elements of Critical Thinking 

Critical thinking is a tool that is frequently utilized to identify and resolve problems that we face on a daily basis. Sally works in a client support position and consistently experiences conflicts with others inside her specialization and clients. She decided to indulge and go out to dinner with her coworkers after a long day of listening to complaints from customers. While at supper, a point was raised that Sally disagreed with, and she was confronted with a hindrance of decisive reasoning. She decided to keep her mouth shut and only express her agreement with the opinions of her coworkers, avoiding expressing her own thoughts on the subject in order to avoid conflict and confrontation.

Sally possessed critical thinking skills; However, I do think she could have expressed her views on the subject without provoking a fight or hurt feelings toward her coworkers. Besides, Sally diverted a negative circumstance from the earlier night into a positive result the following day when she was confronted with a client that contradicted the guaranteed strategy of the printing organization. 

Reason, Feeling, and Correspondence

Sally was confronted with the idea of reason when a client made sense of that he comprehended the guarantee and depicted how crucial his printer was for maintaining a fruitful business. She used reason and empathy to think critically and attempt to de-escalate the situation in order to further assist the customer. She envisioned what the customer’s life would be like. She introduced the guarantee inquiries to her manager in order to determine the issue. Sally’s critical thinking is affected by her actions and feelings, but she overcomes these obstacles by understanding and applying logic to get the best possible result.

Sally communicated with her coworkers at dinner using a passive-aggressive style and was afraid to express her true feelings about a topic with which she disagreed. Because she believed the customer deserved to be treated fairly and pursued resolving the issue by speaking with her manager, her communication style when speaking with the customer about the warranty and the need to understand the policy was assertive and straightforward.

Argument and fallacies 

Sally presented her questions and concerns regarding the warranty issue. She proposed that the warranty be extended to 18 months instead of 12 months because many customers had complained that their printers failed around 13 months after they were purchased. Instead of addressing Sally’s attendance and ability to report on time, her manager employed the ad hominem fallacy and personally attacked her. Sally’s supervisor couldn’t present a substantial contention against the guarantee, which drove her to seek after goal by giving insightful contention proof to help the cases of stretching out the guarantee to the organization’s proprietor.

The evidence gathered from previous printer purchases supported Sally’s arguments and proposal to extend the warranty. Her contentions were substantial and urged upper administration to additional survey the guaranteed strategy to assist with settling any future issues.


Sally employs a variety of critical thinking skills in her interactions with coworkers and customers. She solved a problem that required additional guidance from her superiors by combining logic, emotion, and effective communication. Sally worked tirelessly to resolve the issue at hand in order to benefit the customer and future customers and believed in the customer’s justification.
